Not the Biggest, Just the Best

In the mid 1960’s, Don Lorenz Sr. and a friend went into the appliance business together. They opened a store that ran successfully for almost two decades. The inevitable recession hit in the late 80’s which caused the partnership to desolate and they closed their doors.

Don Sr. went to work for a colleague that actually took over his location in Homewood until their organization went out of business. In August of 1992, Don Sr. asked his son Don Jr. if he would be interested in opening a store, and give this another shot to build a family business and he said yes.

They decided to handle mid line to upper scale appliances and hold a high standard to customer service with delivery and installation. They pulled together what resources they had and built the business up to 30 employees. In late 2008 the housing market crash left the company down to 7 employees. The Lorenz family found themselves again in a situation to try to keep the doors open and rebuild the business.

By this time, Don Sr. and Don Jr. brought his son/brother into the mix and worked to rebuild the business back through a slow growth economy. Shortly after that, Don Sr. passed away and Don Jr. and Brett were on their own to rebuild. In July of 2018, they grew the business to about 15 employees and have opened their second location in Mokena, Illinois. They still continue to live up to their motto, Lorenz Appliance, Not the Biggest, Just the Best.
